Organic food is no healthier, study finds

Organic food has no nutritional or health benefits over ordinary food, according to a major study published Wednesday. Researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine said consumers were paying higher prices for organic food because of its perceived health benefits, creating a global organic market worth an estimated $48 billion in 2007.

  1. I agree with that. Most organic food isn't grown much differently than mass factory farm food. Read Michael Polin "Omnivore's Dilemma" for a more in depth discussion. I'll give one example. An organic chicken farm. Yes, they obey all the rules and laws for organic farming, no growth hormones etc. They keep the birds in a large shed for the first seven or so weeks of life on the pretext that a few will get cold and die from exposure unless confined. Absolutely true and a few birds die anywayeven if they are confined. After the eighth week, they open the doors and the birds are now "Free Range". Trouble is the birds don't go outside because they've never seen outside and are scared to death of it. Over 100,000 free range orgainc birds live in these chicken cities. Still a far cry from chickens that get Sun and get to peck and scratch like evolution intended.
